Responding to Union Activity
Organizations across industries need to be prepared to respond to union activity. Once unionizing activity is underway, managers and supervisors need to know what they can and cannot do in order to avoid unfair labor practices.
Training managers on how to respond appropriately to union activity helps to ensure they understand their role and responsibilities, follow the basic rules for communication about union activities and know what is and isn’t allowed under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA).
Online Training: Responding to Union Activity
This 20-minute interactive training introduces managers to the legal and practical aspects of union activities. Managers learn about the rights of employees under the NLRA, what activities are protected under the law and practical guidance and tips on answering questions from employees and management about labor activity. Interactive knowledge checks and viewer questions clarify key concepts and reinforce which practices and activities are allowed — and which ones can lead to NLRA violations.
The course covers:
- Employee rights under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA)
- Examples of protected concerted activities
- Social media and labor organizing
- Examples of unfair labor practices
- Managers’ role in the organization’s response plans
- FOE and TIPS Guidelines
- Communication guidance/do’s and don’ts for managers
