Training Industry ─ In her byline article, Building AI Confidence in the Workplace: An L&D Guide, Traliant’s Shelby Cooney explains that while AI adoption is accelerating, employee confidence is lagging. Many workers remain unsure whether they’re “using AI correctly,” creating hesitation that can slow innovation.

Cooney emphasizes that effective AI adoption is rooted in empowerment, outlining three pillars for AI readiness: permission, proficiency and purpose. When employees know what’s approved, how to use AI responsibly and how to keep human judgment at the center, they become more confident and capable.

“The most successful strategies won’t come from the smartest algorithms. They’ll come from the most confident learners — those who know how to use AI responsibly, effectively and with purpose,” says Cooney.

To support safe, confident AI use, she offers a five-question framework that guides employees through key considerations, including permissions, privacy, accuracy verification, decision oversight and transparency. Cooney also highlights effective learning strategies — such as sandbox experimentation, scenario-based simulations and role-specific training — to build both skill and sound judgment.
