Information Security Buzz ─ In a new bylined article, John Brushwood, Compliance Counsel at Traliant, explores how both external and insider cyber threats are rapidly changing due to the growing use of AI tools by bad actors. AI can now generate flawless phishing emails, scan public data for personal info, and even create deepfake voice and video messages. As Brushwood puts it,

“Old cues that employees were trained to look out for, like bad grammar or strange phrasing, have been eliminated by AI. We need a new playbook.”

But it’s not just the hackers we need to worry about — insider risks are on the rise too. Everyday shortcuts, like emailing work files from a personal account or installing unauthorized software, can open the door to serious security issues. With more people working remotely or in hybrid setups, oversight is limited, and the stakes are higher. Even departing employees can pose a risk if they take sensitive data with them.

The solution? Brushwood recommends practical, realistic learning — with simulated phishing emails, interactive scenarios, and short, ongoing microlearning moments — to help employees build the right habits and know how to act when something seems off.
