WHAT’S REQUIRED
Illinois compliance training requirements
All Illinois Employers
Annual Sexual Harassment Prevention Training
Every employer with employees working in Illinois must provide sexual harassment prevention training to all employees each calendar year. The training must meet or exceed the Illinois Department of Human Rights’ minimum standards. Employers must also retain records documenting completion.
Restaurants and Bars
Annual Industry-Specific Supplemental Training
Illinois restaurants and bars must provide two forms of annual training:
- Statewide sexual harassment prevention training
- Supplemental training addressing restaurant- and bar-specific risks
The supplemental program must cover situations such as harassment by customers, alcohol-related workplace interactions and power dynamics involving tipped employees.
Chicago Employers
Expanded Annual Training Requirements
Employers with employees working in Chicago must provide:
- One hour of sexual harassment prevention training annually for all employees
- Two hours annually for supervisors and managers
- One hour of bystander intervention training annually for all employees
The Chicago requirements apply in addition to the statewide Illinois mandate, although a course may satisfy both when it meets the applicable standards.

LEGAL AUTHORITY
Reviewed and created by Traliant’s in-house legal team
Illinois and Chicago training requirements are not identical — and additional rules can apply based on an employee’s role or industry. Traliant’s courses are developed and reviewed by in-house legal and compliance experts to address applicable training standards and help organizations keep pace with regulatory changes.
When requirements evolve, course content is updated to help your organization deliver accurate, current and defensible training without rebuilding its program from the ground up.

Illinois compliance involves more than one training requirement
Requirements can vary based on employee location, role and industry. Traliant helps organizations deliver relevant training, manage recurring assignments and maintain the records needed to document compliance.
Illinois and Chicago requirements don’t completely align
Illinois requires annual sexual harassment prevention training for all employees. Chicago adds longer training for supervisors and requires separate annual bystander intervention training. Employers with people working in and outside Chicago must determine which requirements apply to each employee.
Create targeted assignments based on location and role
Assign Illinois harassment prevention training to employees across the state and create targeted assignments for Chicago employees, supervisors and managers based on their location and role.
Some industries have additional obligations
Restaurants and bars must supplement the standard Illinois program with industry-specific training. Other regulated industries may have additional federal, state or professional requirements that depend on the workplace and employee role.
Address statewide, local and industry requirements
Provide legally reviewed training that addresses Illinois requirements, Chicago’s expanded mandates and supplemental restaurant and bar obligations. Employees receive relevant examples and practical guidance designed for the environments in which they work.
Compliance depends on more than course completion
Employers need to assign the correct training, meet annual deadlines and maintain documentation. Managing those requirements manually becomes increasingly difficult as organizations add employees, locations and job classifications.
Document compliance from one platform
Track assignments, completion dates and training records across your organization. Centralized dashboards, certificates and reporting help HR and legal teams verify compliance and respond confidently when documentation is requested.
One workforce. Different requirements.
Whether your organization operates entirely within Illinois or across multiple states, Traliant helps ensure employees receive training based on where they work, the responsibilities they hold and the requirements that apply to them.
Create targeted assignments for:
- Illinois training to employees working anywhere in the state
- Additional Chicago training to city-based employees
- Two-hour programs to Chicago supervisors and managers
- Restaurant- and bar-specific training to covered workforces
- Training to new employees as part of onboarding
- Recurring training before annual deadlines
Connect training with your existing systems
Integrate with your HRIS, LMS and identity management systems to streamline employee data, assignments and completion tracking. Mobile-friendly training gives employees convenient access, while centralized reporting provides visibility across locations and employee groups.
Support a multilingual workforce
Deliver training in multiple languages to help employees understand the expectations and requirements that apply to them. Contact Traliant for current language availability by course.
